This is a map of expansion under Bonaparte.
Napoleon Bonaparte is the man in the hat.
Before the Revolution
France was in a bad state after helping the US because they didn’t
have enough money.
Louis 16th brought together
three estates;
those who pray, (100,000 people) those who fight (400,000 people) and those who work (24 million people).
The government was trying to get the nobles to pay taxes to reduce their debt, before this
only peasants paid taxes.
It is said that before the revolution, the French debt had risen from 8 billion to 12 billion
livres.
Estates
Third estate started to demand
political and social reform.
1st and 2nd estates ganged up against the 3rd estate.
3rd estate forms their own assembly which they called the National Assembly.
After they separated, the National Assembly demanded a national constitution.
Revolts
Revolts such as
Battle of Bastille
which was one of the first battles of the Revolution.

Erased 1st estate (Catholic Church done in France)

they suspect are against the revolution.

Battle of Bastille
The first battle in the Revolution.
On the morning of 14 July 1789, the city of Paris was in a state of alarm.
The 3rd estate attacked the Hotel des Invalides to gather weapons.
Crowds lined up calling for the dismisall of the prison.
Louis XVI found out about the revolt.
The King realized that they weren't going away and that this was the beginning of a revolution.
Result
The revolution unified France and enhanced the power of the National state.
After the revolution, the landowning classes emerged as the dominant power.
Since the revolution ended the feudal system, as the revolution ended the
middle class emerged.
Napoleon established the Napoleonic Code which made the whole legal system equal regardless of religion or wealth.
